Kayla didn’t follow the strict career plan she had in her early career. Instead, she stayed true to her values and leaned into both her natural strengths and areas she wanted to grow.
In every role, she has purposefully brought people together to strengthen their communities — where they live, work, and play. She avoids doing things for the community. Instead, she works with the community members to create sustainable, asset-based, mission-aligned solutions that meet real needs identified by the community.
When her daughter was in preschool, she explained Kayla’s work and a volunteer engagement professional simply and in a heartfelt way: “My mom helps people help people.”
